Gibraltar Lime Kiln
This lime kiln is estimated to date back to the late 19th
century and is the last remaining Lime Kiln in Gibraltar. These
kilns (ovens) where used to produce lime which was used for the
whitewashing of buildings, the painting of water cisterns so the
water was free of bacteria and even to pour over dead bodies in mass graves
to prevent further spread of disease.
