Gibraltar the Moorish Castle
Gibraltar has been occupied by the Moorish from 711 to
1309 and again from 1350 to 1462 and this castle is an excellent
example of Islamic architecture of this period. It is a complex
made up of various buildings, gates, fortified walls and most famously
'The Tower of Homage' and 'The Gate House'.
It is an impressive sight, not only because of its fabulous
construction but also because of its dominant and strategic position. The
Gibraltar Heritage Trust is now trying to protect and restore it to its
original style and design.
