Gibraltar The Siege Tunnels
These tunnels make without a doubt one of the most unique
defence systems made by man. The tunnel makers where aided with gunpowder
for blasting, but most of it had to be done with man power, skills, a sledgehammer
and crowbar only.
When you visit the tunnels remember that it took 18 men
five weeks long to make a tunnel of 25 metres into the rock whilst in World
War ll the fully mechanised tunnelling advanced 55 metres in one week.
Nowadays there are various exhibitions within its chambers
re-enacting scenes lived in this labyrinth throughout its history and you
can admire Victorian guns, a 64 pounder cannon as well as an 18th Century
cannon.
