Different regions in Spain and why the Costa del Sol
Almeria
This is the driest province
in Spain where the sun always shines. It features a largely unspoiled coast
with a spectacular scenery of desert and dried-up riverbeds which make it
so popular as a film location.
Andalusia
Andalusia is classified by many people as 'the real Spain'.
A land of natural contrasts and where you'll find flamenco, orange trees,
tapas (small snacks), bullfights and gipsies. Some of the cities that are
wortwile a visit are Granada, Córdoba, Cádiz and of course
Seville.
Aragon
In Aragón it already gets a bit colder and visitors
are drawn to the place mostly because of the Pyrenees. Points of interest
there are definitely the spectacular valleys, old farming villages and unspoilt
mountains with castles and ancient stone villages.
Asturias
This is the 'greener' part of Spain and mainly visited
by Spaniards and the French but still quiet undiscovered. This part of the
country has a distinctive Celtic culture that even includes bagpipes and
a excellent cider!
Balearic
Islands
These islands have a character and beauty that is different
from the Spanish mainland. It consists of 4 Islands: Ibiza, Mallorca, Menorca
and Formentera with each fine beaches, good food and an excellent nightlife.
Basque
Country
This is a distinctive area where the habitants even have
their own language, and their cuisine is one of Spain's finest. The landscape
consists of green mountainous interior and rugged coasts.
Canary
Islands
These islands receive an invasion of tourists each year
but beyond the resorts you can still find tiny fishing villages and whitewashed
hamlets. There are 6 islands: Gran Canaria, La Palma, Tenerife, Gomera,
Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and El Hierro.
Cantabria
Along the Bay of Biscay it boasts a stunning coastline
between sheer cliffs and sandy beaches. From it’s coast begins ´Green
Spain´with lush meadows, pastures and hills and with the spectacular
Picos de Europa beyond.
Castilla
La Mancha
The name ´La Mancha´comes from the Ariabic
expression meaning ´dry waterless land´. Much of the land is
hot and treeless but that makes it attractive at the same time. There is
plenty to see like e.g. the medieval splendour of Toledo and the striking
hanging houses of Cuenca.
Castilla
Leon
Here you find the timeless mountain scenery and villages
of the vast Castilian plains. Some of it’s highlights are the cities
Salamanca, Leon and Segovia.
Catalonia
The most famous place in Catalonia is without a doubt the
cosmopolitan city Barcelona. But there are many other places to visit such
as the rough coasts with stunning beaches and of course the Pyrenees.
Costa
Blanca
Although this region which is most visited in Spain is
now dominated by high-rise hotels and villas, it is still and attractive
coast and home to the tourist cliché of Benidorm and Torrevieja.
Extremadura
Situated on the border of Portugal this is one of the least
visited regions of spain, whilst there are may places of interest such as
the a beautiful natural park, the capital Mérida with its Roman remains
and the town Cácares.
Galicia
In terms of climate, culture and music this region looks
more like Ireland and you should always be prepared for the rain. One of
the places of interest here is Santiago de Compostela which is the famous
end of a pilgrimage trail.
La Rioja
One of it´s places of interest is without a doubt
the busy capital Logroño with its old quarter bordered by the River
Ebro and beautiful medieval walls. The region is famous for its red wines
and there are many little bodegas.
Murcia
Together with Extremadura this is one of the least visited
regions of Spain. A feature is its coastline that possesses a unique natural
feature of the Mar Menor which is a large lagoon.
Navarra
This region has a lot of variation and reaches from the
Pyrenees all the way to Rioja. It attracts tourists worldwide because of
the celebrated running of the bulls and the 'Fiesta de San Fermín'.
Valencia
This region takes in the Costa del Azahar as well as the
Costa Blanca and one of the points of interest is the fascinating city Valencia,
known for its exuberant night life.
Costa
del Sol
The Costa del Sol is for many the favourite part of Spain.
Situated in Andalucia (the real Spain) it stretches from Gibraltar to Malaga.
It has a very wide range of amenities and different landscapes. There are
a string of international resorts including glamorous Marbella and Puerto
Banús and typical whitewashed Spanish villages to be found dotted
everywhere.
Below we have made a small list of reasons why people have
chosen to buy here;
-The best climate with 350 days of sunshine a year and
therefore popular with holiday makers who will rent your property at high
prices in the months you don’t want to use it yourself. And if you
are looking for an investment then why not let your property for long term.
There is a 'rental department' which will look after all aspects of letting
your apartment long or short term.
-The infrastructure is better then most other places in
Spain. There are daily flights from U.K. to both Malaga- and Gibraltar Airport
from where you can take either the coastal road or toll road to most urbanisations
on the coast in less then 20 minutes. There are international flights from
Malaga Airport to other parts of Spain but even Madrid is only a 5 hours
drive by car. So if the regions mentioned above attract you for a holiday
or weekend there is nothing to stop you visiting them, while the sunshine
is waiting for when you return.
-The language barrier is not a problem as many people here
speak English. Also there are numerous language schools to choose from should
you decide to learn the language.
-If you are looking to move down on a permanent basis then
finding a job should not be a problem. Most employers are looking for people
speaking English and Spanish. German is often an advantage. If you are looking
for work then you have a good chance finding one in the 'Sur in English'
which is a free newspaper available at your local kiosk, paper shop or petrol
station and comes out every Friday. There is even a copy of this newspaper
in German.
-The medical service here is excellent with various (private)
hospitals to choose from, as well as clinics with doctors from all over
Europe, dentists, pharmacies etc.
-There are so many things to do. Amusement parks, water
parks, museums, exhibitions and sports clubs. Especially if you enjoy playing
golf then this should be a paradise for you as the coasts second name is
'Costa del Golf'. There is something for everyone, and you will find a detailed
list of sports clubs and other amenities on our website.
- For years prices on this coast have been much higher
then on the other 'Costas' but that gap has become smaller and smaller
which is another reason to set your mind on the Costa del Sol.
